About the La Manga area

Our La Manga Apartment

The area around the apartment is known as the La Manga Strip. It is a Spanish 'Florida Keys' being just 1km wide (and often much less) and around 20km long, coming to an abrupt and wet end! The map above (1) shows the genera area. (2) Zooms in to an aerial view of the section by the Tomas Maestre Marina and lastly (3) zooms in further and shows an aerial view of Puertomar, with an arrow pointing at our apartment block.

The strip is flanked by modern apartment buildings and secluded villas, with restaurants, shops and marinas, sprinkled along the way. English is second language for many people and you will rarely have any trouble, being understood. It is one of the few places in Europe where you only have to cross the road, to get into (or out of) the sea breeze. The region boast over 300 days of Sunshine per year, with average temperatures of 17 degrees in the winter and 27 degrees in the summer.

With the mirror like Mar Menor to the West and the Mediterranean to the East, it is blessed with long stretches of often deserted sand covered beaches, with free access to all. Jellyfish can be a problem in high summer anywhere in the Mediterranean, but our council uses net walls to keep them out and create safe bathing areas. Most of the Mar Menor (the inner sea) is very shallow and ideal for safe bathing. The weather is usually around 14-20c in winter and rarely gets too hot in summer, thanks to being surrounded by so much water
